Abstract

The object of this study is the territory of the Lutsk district in the Volyn region (northwest Ukraine), and the subject is the locations and dynamics of wildfires in this area. The purpose of this work is to assess the spatio-temporal features of wildfire occurrences in the Lutsk district. The research methods applied include analysis of literary sources, decoding and analysis of multispectral satellite images, statistical analysis of remote data on hot spots, and cartographic data visualization.

Using remote data, the locations and timing of wildfires in the Lutsk district from 2012 to 2022 were analyzed. The yearly and seasonal dynamics of fire occurrences were evaluated. The most frequent fires were recorded in the early spring and summer-autumn periods of 2015 and 2016, while the least occurred in 2013 and 2021, mainly due to weather conditions. An interactive Google MyMaps map was created to record the locations of fires for each year. The locations of the most frequent wildfires were identified and correlated with landscape types. The necessary materials for further monitoring, using a combination of remote data, are described.
