Abstract

The research analyses the possibilities of applying and methods of interpreting long-term data obtained by remote sensing using GIS tools. The results of spatio-temporal analysis of fire spread and identification of burned forest areas based on remote sensing data for the territory of the Kreminna Forests National Park are presented. A generalised spatio-temporal analysis of open multi-year data for the study area was carried out using the Google Earth Engine platform, in particular the built-in OSINT Forest Area Tracker and European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS) applications. The results of the spatial analysis of the data series showed a dynamic increase in technogenic fires during the period since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the russian federation. For a detailed study of the research area, Landsat satellite time series were used within the time range of 2021-2024. The state of vegetation cover during the study period was analysed using algorithms for calculating the normalised burn ratio (NBR), normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI). The results obtained from the spatial analysis of multi-year data are useful for monitoring and determining the extent of forest ecosystem losses, assessing the scale of damage, and developing a rehabilitation strategy.
