Abstract

Landslides and avalanches are widespread hazardous geodynamic processes along the northwestern coast of the Black Sea, requiring detailed analysis. At the same time, the scope of instrumental studies and field observations in the region has been decreasing, making remote sensing data an important source of information. This study presents a spatial assessment of the landslide susceptibility of coastal slopes using data obtained from publicly available satellite sources. It is achieved by the development of a model that accounts for the combined influence of morphometric terrain parameters and indices characterizing vegetation cover and surface moisture. The resulting model made it possible to identify areas of varying levels of potential landslide and avalanche hazards along the slopes of the northwestern Black Sea coast. Model verification was carried out by comparing the obtained results with slope stability coefficients reported in an authoritative publication. The analysis revealed a strong correlation, indicating an acceptable level of agreement between the modeling results and actual slope stability conditions in the region.
