Abstract

The Poshtova Square reconstruction was one of the largest infrastructure projects in Kyiv in recent years. The large traffic flows in the "north-south" direction pass through the square, and the modern transport hub absence in this area complicates car traffic and increases the corresponding dynamic effects. The complicating geotechnical conditions of the site also include the weak water-saturated soils of the Dnipro River floodplain deposits, a high groundwater level regulated by metro tunnels, and the landslide-prone slope of the Volodymyrska Hill. The existing building, highway and metro line cause the increased necessity of design solutions considering the dynamic effects of various intensity and magnitude. The vibrodynamic influences sources, including the metro, were studied taking into account the natural seismic background. The calculation model was developed to perform the direct dynamic calculations of the landslide protection structures and to determine the stress-strain state of the soil around the construction site with the consideration of the actual accelerograms; the analysis of the compliance of the obtained settlement data and the new building design data with the current regulatory documents on seismic construction in Ukraine was carried out; if necessary, the recommendations issuance for strengthening the relevant structures of the building foundation and superstructure is possible.
