Our work is devoted to the analysis of changes in the structure of forest types in the Zakarpattia Region using the example of the Zahatske Forestry. The aim of the work was to compare the data of the soil-forest typological survey of 1962–1963 with modern planning and mapping materials of the 2010 forest management using geo-information technologies. The methodological basis was vectorization and comparison of cartography materials using QGIS tools, in particular the “Overlap” algorithm, which made it possible to determine the percentage of overlap and spatial discrepancies between individual forest typological units. The results of the analysis showed significant differences within forest types, which are due to different methodological approaches to their mapping. The greatest discrepancies we observed within the common beech-oak types in fresh fertile soil conditions (D2-fsQp) and in fresh relatively fertile soil conditions (C2-fsQp), where the proportion of discrepancies reached 32–80 %. At the same time, the differences mainly concerned the moisture index, while the composition of the stands remained relatively stable. The identified discrepancies confirm that modern forest management is mainly focused on the taxonomic indicators of stands, while the data of previous forest typological surveys reflect a more detailed spatial structure of forest types. As a result, we concluded that the discrepancies are not critical for forestry production, but their consideration is important when planning measures for reforestation and the formation of native stands. The results emphasize the scientific and practical significance of archival cartographic materials and the relevance of their digital processing for modern needs of forestry, monitoring the dynamics and functioning of forest ecosystems.
