Abstract 

Today, people are increasingly concerned about the deterioration of the ecological situation. One such problem is the urban heat island effect. This phenomenon describes higher temperatures and less cooling at night in cities compared to non-urban areas. This study will demonstrate the results obtained by remote sensing (using Landsat images) to monitor this phenomenon in Kyiv. The study will describe changes in land surface temperature between 1985 and 2024, identify areas most vulnerable to high temperatures, and demonstrate the relationship between development and rising land surface temperatures (using the NDBI index and some historical data).
