Geographic information systems serve as an effective tool for combining a large array of spatial data and building models that allow them to be used in determining the boundaries of administrative-territorial units. The list of sources of information on various spatial layers for establishing (changing) administrative-territorial units (villages, towns, cities and districts in cities) is considered, taking into account various factors. The author distinguishes groups of spatial analytical information necessary for establishing (changing) the boundaries of administrative-territorial units: boundaries of a settlement according to the StateGeoCadastre, according to urban planning documentation, according to land management documentation, boundaries of land parcels, orthophotomaps for accurate boundary establishment. An example of GIS application in spatial combination and display of information and analytical layers for analysis, modeling and search for the best solution for the implementation of the project boundary of a rural settlement is demonstrated.
